“The Odd Couple” is a comedy about two recently divorced men who discover they are completely incompatible roommates. Felix Ungar, a neurotic and obsessively neat news writer, moves in with his longtime friend Oscar Madison, a carefree, slovenly sportswriter, after his marriage falls apart. At first, the arrangement seems practical, but their sharply contrasting personalities quickly create tension.

Felix’s constant cleaning, cooking, and worrying clash with Oscar’s messy, laid-back lifestyle, leading to a series of humorous arguments and awkward situations—including a disastrous double date with two sisters from their apartment building. As the play progresses, they both recognize that living together is more challenging than they ever imagined.

Felix Ungar
Felix is a recently separated news writer who is intelligent, sensitive, and painfully meticulous. He is obsessively neat—cleaning, cooking gourmet meals, and worrying constantly about health, manners, and order. Emotionally fragile after the collapse of his marriage, Felix is prone to tears, self-pity, and dramatic overreactions. Despite his fussy nature, he is kind-hearted and genuinely cares about others, though his need for control and perfection often overwhelms those around him.

Oscar Madison
Oscar is a sportswriter and the complete opposite of Felix. Sloppy, carefree, and easygoing, he thrives in clutter and avoids responsibility whenever possible. He loves poker nights, junk food, and a relaxed bachelor lifestyle. Beneath his sarcastic humor and gruff exterior, however, Oscar values friendship deeply. His growing frustration with Felix’s constant criticism and compulsive behavior drives much of the play’s conflict.

Murray
Murray is a police officer and one of Oscar’s poker buddies. Practical and good-natured, he often acts as a peacemaker during arguments. Murray shows genuine concern for Felix’s emotional state and tries to offer steady advice when tensions rise.

Speed
Speed is loud, impatient, and blunt. He is easily irritated, especially when Felix’s fussiness disrupts poker night. His quick temper adds energy and humor to group scenes.

Vinnie
Vinnie is mild-mannered and somewhat quiet compared to the others. He often serves as a neutral observer during arguments, reacting with confusion or disbelief to the escalating chaos.

Roy
Roy is another of the poker-playing friends. He is relaxed and tolerant, often attempting to smooth things over. Like the others, he enjoys Oscar’s laid-back lifestyle and struggles to adjust to Felix’s structured presence.

Gwendolyn Pigeon
Gwendolyn is one of the British sisters who live upstairs. She is polite, sweet, and slightly reserved. Her proper manners and soft-spoken nature contrast humorously with the men’s chaotic apartment.

Cecily Pigeon
Cecily, Gwendolyn’s sister, is also refined and kind but a bit more expressive. The sisters’ accents, charm, and gentle innocence create one of the play’s funniest sequences during the disastrous dinner date, especially when Felix’s emotional oversharing derails the evening.

There is no specific age for any of the characters.
