Children's Workshop

The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County is pleased to announce the return of our live Children’s Workshops. The workshop is now under the direction of Mary Maxwell and Lisa Sommers following the retirement of longtime director Pat Potter earlier this year.

Registration is live now! Those interested are urged to register early as spaces are limited. The Children’s Workshop will run from July 26-30 from 6:00-8:30 pm, and The Little Theatre Performance Academy will run from August 2-6 from 6:00-9:00 pm.

The cost is $60 before June 30 or $65 after that deadline. The fee includes a workshop t-shirt. Checks should be made payable to The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County and mailed to Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County, P.O. Box 53, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Four scholarships are available. The scholarship application form can be found within our online registration form. The scholarship was established in memory of longtime Little Theatre member Karen Huffman, who passed away in 2016. Those interested in applying for this scholarship must register by June 30.

Classes will be taught by experienced theater professionals. The Children’s Workshop is for students entering Grades 1-5 who want to focus on all aspects of being on stage. During the course of the program, students will be instructed in improvisation, memorization, characterizations, singing, dancing and acting along with learning stage positions, stage etiquette and auditioning.

The program is designed to benefit children of all abilities and experience levels. Students must have basic reading skills.
Studies will culminate in a performance for family and friends on Friday, July 30 at 8 p.m.

A Performance Academy for students entering grades 6-12 will allow students to study acting, improvisation, lighting, make-up, backstage management, stage combat, dance and vocal auditions. Students may select interest group preferences upon registration. Students of any experience level are encouraged to attend. Students will develop the ability to create characterizations through various body and vocal techniques.

Studies will culminate in a final performance for family and friends on Friday, Aug. 6 at 8 p.m.

New this year is our alumni volunteer program. Students in Grades 11-12 who have participated in our children’s workshops in the past may choose to volunteer and instruct rather than participate. Those interested may fill out the form to the right and Mary will be in contact with you soon.
